Welcome to the Unfiltered Doula.
It's anonymous. Why? Because I love you.
Most of the people I interact with in my professional capacity as a Childbirth Educator and Doula are expecting a baby. People expecting a baby have a tendency to be overwhelmed with a gazillion choices, pieces of advice, Lists, Lists of Lists, etc. It's my genuine hope to pare down some of these things and give you the scoop on what I've learned, not only as someone expecting babies (in the past) myself, but someone in the birth world, learning birth things, talking with birth professionals, and working as a Doula and CBE for over 10 years.
So this first post is a bit of intro. I live in a large metro area, there are over 10 hospitals, birth centers and home birth areas where I practice. Some of them are awesome. Some of them suck. I'm not going to tell you where, but I will give you some wherefores.
Now, I said it's anonymous because I love you, and I do. I do love people expecting babies, and if I didn't I wouldn't be in this line of work. Some of you, however, need a wake up call, and I can't give it to you if you're trying to hire a Doula. I don't want to make you nervous, I promise. I don't want you to feel judged. I promise. I DO want you to feel empowered to make the right decisions, and so my goal is to tell you how to filter out all the noise noise noise until you can figure out what decisions you should be making. Which ones are important, and which ones can be set aside.
Stay tuned. My first piece of advice will be on what are THE MOST IMPORTANT factors to having the birth you want. You can do this. Hang in there.
