A shot of Athabasca Falls in the Icefields Parkway this past June on one of our recovery days. It was a mere blip on that week-long adventure, and somehow looks way more serene than I remember it being. I recall feeling annoyed by the hoards of tourists, who thought it was okay to jump the fence to wander to the edge of the Falls. This is one of those sites you might see once and avoid for the rest of eternity, or at least during the daylight hours, when tour buses unload frenzied groups of people. That trip to Alberta, Canada, was probably the most intense and exhausting adventure I had all year—type 3 to 4 suffering—to the extent that perhaps for apprehension of reliving the exhaustion, I've barely even gone through the photos I took then. We hiked from sunrise to sunset (6am to 10pm), barely slept, yet still have so much more to experience and see there. I remember returning to Chicago after that trip and feeling so absolutely demolished for a whole week. It was awesome.
