Harin AgustĂn of West Palm holds a photo of his brother, Eugenio Danilo AgustĂn, who was taken into custody by border patrol just a few days ago. For years, Eugenio stood on the corner of 44th Street and Broadway Avenue and waited to secure work as a day laborer so he could support his wife and daughter in Guatemala. Now he is being held in the Krome detention center in Miami, where he waits for his day in court.

Love Letter to Florida (Treasuer Island) tea-toned gelatin silver print by Ernesto Esquer 4 ¾ x 3 in., printed 2017 Ernesto Esquer is a photographic artist and printer from Tucson, Arizona. He actively works in all aspects of traditional darkroom photography and various alternative processes including cyanotype and lumen prints. He has extensive experience working with Polaroid, Fujifilm, and Impossible Project films and teaches instant film manipulations. He received his BFA in Photography from the University of Arizona and is currently the Laboratory Specialist at Pima Community College. Most recently he was the printer and curatorial assistant for the Louis Carlos Bernal exhibition Arizona, Unseen: Color Photographs 1978-1988. Dark Spring Press published his first book, In No Time, a collection of handcrafted toned and colored gelatin silver prints, earlier this year. In the foreword, photographer Ken Rosenthal writes: “Every formal element, from trim size to toning, is carefully considered as he presents these delicately scaled photographs as unique and precious objects. No white gloves are necessary: it is Esquer’s desire that these images be held in one’s bare hand.” We are pleased to present a selection of photographs by Esquer in our online gallery for a limited time.
