I'm so love with citrine and amethyst this spring!
Fascinating that both stones are pretty much the same type of macrocrystalline quartz but the yellow of natural citrine is caused by natural irradiation and traces of aluminum or the presence of oxidized iron impurities.
Naturally occurring citrine is pretty rare as it needs the conditions to be just right; but a rich, golden citrine can be induced from natural amethyst with the use of very high heat.
Most citrine that is available these days is heat-treated amethyst, it's much more golden in color than the more green, natural citrine and has the same druzy- clustering style of crystal formation as amethyst.
Love love love; just like the color of lilacs and forcythia- so spring!
