There’s no side-by-side, but a HUGE transformation happened this day. 5/9/2015 Fargo Marathon.
recently asked me on a run about my journey to my first BQ. I had never thought of it before, but my brain changed this day.
I had never followed a training plan or heard of speedwork. I ran as therapy but was bound and determined to break 4 hours for marathon no. 3. I came in with ease at 3:49:49 and was on top of the WORLD! ••
The day was cold. It never got above 39 degrees the whole race. 😐 We ran into a bitter wind for at least the last 6 miles. I never even got to sport my wine tank! 😫😆
Before this day, I didn’t believe in myself. I just wasn’t “fast” and I’d never be fast. I wasn’t good enough. I’d be lucky to break 4.
After I crossed the line, I changed my thinking to “why NOT me?” I knew my next marathon would be hard, but I was going to throw all caution to the wind and go for it.
The following year, I trained my ass off for my BQ attempt (3:35) and I did it, shaving another 18 minutes off my time (3:31:19).
Guts and hard work. Ugly, gritty stuff. It makes the dream work. Go after it. Chase it. The biggest limitation on you is YOU. 👊🏼
