"Name calling...is in NO WAY beneficial and gets us nowhere." Calling Laurel a "female" got him Silver, though... #Repost @tenacious_strength
New Zealand’s transgender athlete Laurel Hubbard takes Silver at the @iwfnet
World Championships with this 124kg/274kg snatch.
USA’s Sarah Robles @roblympian
🇺🇸takes the Gold.
As far a rules go:
“Hubbard complies with the conditions put in place by the International Olympic Committee (IOC), whose procedures on transgender athletes are followed by the International Weightlifting Federation (IWF).” ▪️I figured one of these regulations was testosterone limits. However, it looks like the IOC did away with the testosterone limits in 2015. As I tried to get the current IOC regulations, the only thing I found was: ▪️“Sex testing was not required of any athletes at the Rio Olympics, however, meaning intersex track athletes could compete with their natural testosterone levels”.....▪️and “With regard to Hyperandrogenism in female athletes, there were no regulations in place at the Olympic Games Rio 2016 and there will be no regulations in place at the Olympic Winter Games PyeongChang 2018 as we are still awaiting the resolution of the Dutee Chand case,” the IOC recently claimed.
whoa. ▪️No testosterone limits? Anybody have more info? Article link in bio. **UPDATE: It is beneficial to have open discussion and even argument about the fairness of this issue in our sport. Name calling and cruelty, however, is in NO WAY beneficial and gets us nowhere.** TAG A WEIGHTLIFTER 🏋🏻
