Progress update! Finished up W2 of the RI6 challenge from @jimstoppani this morning and I weighed in at 231 lbs which is the lightest I've been in over a year. Starting to see the changes happen slowly after floating around 240 lbs for the last year since I hurt my knee. Had to switch back to the morning gym sessions @4thavegym because my body is not made to train in the afternoons. I would like to take a minute and talk about scale vs. Non scale victories. The other morning I woke up, stepped on the scale and started my morning at the lowest weight (136) I've seen since deploying in 2015. I gained roughly 20 pounds in a matter of 4 months (130-152). I set a goal to get back to that predeployment weight and I have been hitting a plateau about 7lb (137) Short of that goal ever since, to say this is frustrating would be a total understatement. So I woke up at my lowest weight, but I truly didn't feel it. I felt fat, no I don't have a negative self image I know I'm not fat, but I truly felt fat and bloated. Last week was a rough one and there were many contributing factors to make me feel that way. Now rewind a few more days, weighing probably 1.5 lbs More and I felt lean and thin and comfortable (swipe). Long story short.. just because that number on the scale goes down, it doesn't mean that you should only use that as progress. I'm a true believer in measuring your progress in how you feel mentally and physically. When life is throwing curve balls your way your body responds with stress, and it is both a blessing and a curse. It's helpful when we really need it, but can cause a crap ton of chaos in your body when its over the little things. Your body goes into flight or fight mode which in turns makes you not only exhausted, but makes you retain water which then leads to weight gain. So what I'm saying is even though you're doing everything right and your losing weight, but you just dont feel up to par, you need to take a step back, assess what's going on in your life and not worry. We are human, we go through stressful situations day in and day out..thats called life and sometimes it can be a real bitch. Stick to your routine, keep doing what you're doing and it'll all work out and you'll reach your goals. It's been three years since my accident. I fully recovered the best I will. I will always be 18% disabled my life but I wake up everyday thankful for the chance still be able to walk out my door and support my family. As we all know it surely could have had a different outcome,But I'm stubborn,I am a fighter and I refuse to ever give up. I am forever grateful for my wife and for the friends and family that helped us. I look at life a little different because I learned then the next day is not always promised to you.
