My raw foods - plant-based story has been a winding journey. Eleven years ago I was moving from Santa Barbara to Costa Mesa. I would get sick quite a bit at that time until a raw food cleanse changed my life. I was still using a lot of processed vegetarian foods and for the first time I started tasting meat a few years earlier, mainly to sell our chefs dishes at a boutique hotel I worked for but I did indulge in sushi too. This was not unlike an earlier path in high school ten years earlier when I first started to question dairy, again replacing it with processed soy cheese... I ate very little meat growing up, only very processed kinds like pepperoni, bacon and hotdogs. I had a rocky relationship with food to say the least! Most of the time my body didn't feel right when eating. My family doctor recommended I read Diet for a Small Planet and it was exactly what I needed, discovering some simple truths about the way Americans approach food. My perspective was widened with the support of my family and we started trying recipes from all around the world. It was in 2006 that I completed a six month raw food cleanse and reset my body completely in California. I was certainly more aware of what I was eating after this time and integrated plant-based foods into my mostly vegetarian life. .
Natalie Pregoone talked about the importance of how food makes us feel recently. Serotonin produced in the gut is fascinating and something I want to learn more about. I think about food experience a lot lately as plant-based foods have always made me feel awesome! Not to mention I enjoy the art of this preparation. It's a series like this on #omstars
that has given me the nudge I needed to get the dehydrator started again stepping into a vast new territory. 💗
