🔶Comment the BEST small arms weapon of WW2 in your opinion.🔶 THE M1 GARAND This rifle, often called the best rifle of the Second World War, and even “the best weapon war ever created”, was the standard issue of US troops during World War Two. The M1 was designed in 1928 and produced from 1934-1956, and in the end, 5,468,772 would be created. The rifle chambered .30-06 Springfield (7.62x63mm) rounds in an 8-round en-bloc clip internal magazine. It shoots around 40-50 rounds a minute, has a muzzle velocity of 2,800 ft/s (853m/s), and has an effective firing range of 500 yards (457m). It weighed about 9.5-11.6 lb’s (4.31-5.3kg) and cost around $85 in World War Two ($1,200 in 2016). The M1 Garand was indeed perhaps the best, most versatile rifle of the Second World War. It’s semi-automatic during capability allowed it to outshoot the German Kar98k, which was bolt action, and thus many Germans came to fear the weapon. The Germans did have their own semi-automatic rifle, but it was not heavily produced enough for all troops to acquire it. I personally think the best overall small arms weapon in terms of stats during WW2 would be the German-made StG-44 (first assault rifle), but in terms of overall impact and versatility, the M1 Garand has my vote all the way. The StG-44 simply was not made in high enough numbers to make a real impact. This is just my personal opinion, and by all means feel free to put yours down in the comments below! Brazil celebrates Black Consciousness Day on Monday, a holiday that aims to highlight the issues faced by the country's Afro-Brazilian community. In Brazil, race remains divisive and can determine opportunity. On Monday, Afro-Brazilians will take to the streets in cities across the country to parade and participate in cultural events, a celebration of black culture and heritage in Brazil. The date for the holiday was chosen to mark the anniversary of the death of Zumbi dos Palmares, a 17th-century Brazilian warrior who fought to free the slaves. During the years of the slave trade, Brazil imported more slaves than any other country and was the last country to officially end slavery. Still, Palmares ensured that his state, Quilombo of Palmares, was the first place in the Americas where slaves gained freedom. According to the annual "Atlas of Violence" report released by Brazilian think tanks, 71 out of every 100 men killed in Brazil are black. "Young and black males continue to be murdered each year as if they were in a war zone," the study found. Economic inequalities also persist along racial lines in Brazil, research demonstrates. Around 70 percent of the wealthiest 10 percent in the country are white, while blacks represent 74 percent of the most impoverished 10 percent of the population, according to Brazilian government statistics. Around half of the country's population is black. Restaurants in Brazil's busiest cities are filled with wealthy white patrons served by black waiters and doormen, reports note. Surveys have also shown that race is inextricably linked with perceptions of class in the country, despite a national narrative that claims racism is not an issue. Celebratory holidays like Black Consciousness Day and campaigns like Black Lives are meant to draw attention to the inequalities and help elevate the social standing of Afro-Brazilians. #AfroBrazilian #PanAfricanism #BlackNationalism #BlackEmpowerment #BlackAndProud #BlackPride #BlackPower #BlackLivesMatter #BlackIsBeautiful #EconomicEmpowerment #IntegrationFailed #WhiteLiesMatter #Education #AfricanUnification #AfricanUnity #BlackLove
