Some of my favorite words from Jim Carrey to kick off your motivation Monday. It is privilege to work with this vibrant soul. One time while we were making guacamole in his kitchen I ask him what drives him. He tells me stories of how his job as an entertainer is to free people from concern. When he becomes insanely animated like Pet Detective or Fire Marshall Bill, he does so hoping his extreme behavior gives someone watching permission to be their true self, free from the limits and concerns of what others think.
A few of his inspirations:
"You can fail at what you don't want, so you might as well take a chance on doing what you love."
"Behind every great man there is a woman rolling her eyes."
"Imagine if you could actually be that happy? That would be powerful, man. People would be tunneling under the street to avoid you. They'd go 'Oh, man - is that happy guy still out there?"
"My family kinda hit the skids. We were experiencing poverty at that point. We all got a job, where the whole family had to work as security guards and janitors. I wrote myself a check for ten million dollars for acting services rendered and dated it Thanksgiving 1995. I put it in my wallet and it deteriorated. And then, just before Thanksgiving 1995, I found out I was going to make ten million dollars for Dumb & Dumber. I put that check in the casket with my father because it was our dream together."
"I never thought I was finished when people said I was finished, or any of that stuff. I always had this undying belief that even if I was in a wheelchair and I could only move my finger, somehow I would become the guy who does the amazing thing with his finger."
"Your need for acceptance can make you invisible in this world. Don’t let anything stand in the way of the light that shines through this form. Risk being seen in all of your glory." #jimcarrey
