#DeadliftSeries Part 5️⃣ of 8️⃣! Activating your shoulder blades🔪 during a deadlift is crucial for protecting 🛡your back and producing force to lift the barbell. We have already talked about finding your neutral📐 pelvic tilt, core engagement🔥 in a hinge, and foot/knee 👣alignment. Another very important cue⚠️ to remember is scapular stability! By pulling the blades down and away from the ears and SLIGHTLY back, you create tension through the entire torso to help transfer force from your legs/hips, through your torso, into the arms, and into whatever object you are lifting🚗. . . It is great to focus on what the lower body is doing during a deadlift, but you have to address the entire body as a whole! Getting the scapula pulled down⬇️ and away from the head while simultaneously pulling the bar into your legs will activate⚡️ the lats and traps of the back. Think of this activation as a brace 🛡for the backside of your body. Just like the abs help to brace the front and sides torso, the lats and traps will brace the entire back. Engage the blades and arms! You don’t want to be lifting like a floppy noodle! 🍜 . . One extra cue to maximize tension in the back is to try to pull/stretch the barbell(or any object) apart↔️. This will activate the back a ton! When you are lifting a super heavy weight⚖️, you do NOT want to lose tension in the back. Doing so can result in a disc, joint, or muscle injury. 🚫 💻Written by Andrew Dettelbach . . ⚡️You can learn to move better and live pain free!  The MoveU Method is a step-by-step online training program to transform your movement and accelerate your journey back to a pain-free life.
