A very useful post from Dr. Amy Tran, DPT ( @amypedia
) demonstrating a simple taping technique that can be used to help reduce the risk of suffering an ankle sprain. Here are her instructions ⬇️⬇️⬇️
Here is a quick and easy way to specifically tape the ankle to prevent inversion sprains (rolling ankle inwards) ---this can aid in return to sport without the bulk of excessive tape.
Using Leuko Tape, anchor medially, then heel lock to the other side, making sure to pull and anchor upwards. Athletes should feel full mobility with resistance only into inversion.
It is critical to note here that a full rehabilitation program is needed to treat an ankle sprain. This means balance, strengthening, manual therapy and corrective exercises to get to 100%! Tape alone (or any single modality for that matter) will not do the trick. It is simply a bandaid to assist in this multifaceted process. Be sure to always consult with your clinician to determine if taping is right for you.
