Which city do you prefer - Edinburgh or London? I'm partial to Edinburgh myself... there is always something new to discover. Take this great shot by @justine_super.t of the historic Dean Village. Hidden away at the foot of a steep cobbled hill, with the Water of Leith lapping beside it, and surrounded by verdant greenery, it's easy to forget that Dean Village is but a mere five minutes walk from the hustle and bustle of Edinburgh City Centre. Love this shot as it's a mix of the weather today.. one minute lovely sunshine, the next a rain shower. And look at those lovely wet cobbles! ⠀ Dean Village (from dene, meaning 'deep valley') is a former village and was known as the "Water of Leith Village" and was the centre of a successful grain milling area for more than 800 years. The mills of Dene were first mentioned in King David I's founding charter of Holyrood Abbey, usually dated c. 1145, in which he granted one of his mills of Dene to the Abbey. 'The Baxters' or baker's guild provided the whole of Edinburgh and surrounding villages with meal and thrived until the 19th Century when the larger flour mills in Leith eventually made them redundant. . We officially still have a month of summer left, so I'm going to enjoy these golden yellow colours whilst we can (and avoid today's random rain showers!) - have a wonderful weekend exploring!
