Rare is the soul who can claim to understand their mission in life. Mine, I've come to realize, is to bring light and love to the Russian Avant-Garde.

One of the most interesting books written on Alexandra Exter by @patriciarailingwrites Such a inspiration to me! #myartadventure #intothelight #Repost @patriciarailingwrites ( @get_repost) ・・・ LIVING WITH THE RUSSIAN AVANT-GARDE No. 14 - Alexandra Exter Paints 10 April 2017. If my quest has been to discover how art became #abstract in the early 20th century, then the magnificent painting of Alexandra #Exter between 1912 and 1924 reveals one of the answers. Hers was the ART OF COLOUR explored through the LAWS OF COLOUR – and these are the LAWS OF LIGHT: the prismatic spectrum and the complementary colours of light. To them is added the law of contrast, colour between light and dark. Alexandra Exter used these 3 laws as principles for her creative innovations in #Cubism and in her #Simultaneism inspired by Robert and Sonia #Delaunay and the American Synchromists, Morgan Russell and Stanton Macdonald-Wright. Her #Abstract #Constructions of Plane Surfaces, Constructions of Colour, and Dynamics of Colour were made according to pure colour laws. When she applied these principles to her #costumes for the theatre it made her one of the foremost designers for the modern stage in Russia between 1916 and 1921. Alexandra Exter Paints (www.artistsbookworks.co.uk) devotes detailed enquiry into how the artist used these creative laws of colour to produce some of the most extraordinary abstract works of early Russian #modernism. #russianavantgarde #lawsofcolor #russianmodernism #alexandraexter #color #arthistory
I see where I have apparently gotten my inspiration in how I hang the art in my home . #Repost @patriciarailingwrites ( @get_repost) ・・・ LIVING WITH THE RUSSIAN AVANT-GARDE No. 30 - Picasso and Russian Cubism 30 April 2017. Neither Kazimir #Malevich nor Ivan #Kliun went to Paris to meet Picasso and other #Cubists, but it was hardly necessary in the circumstances. For the Moscow collector, Sergei #Shchukin (See, Icons of Modern Art. The Shchukin Collection at the Fondation Louis Vuitton, Paris), had been going to Paris since the early 1900s when he would visit the studios of #Picasso and #Matisse and buy his #Monets (13 works), #Gauguins (16 works) and other #picasso #Impressionists and #Fauves from their dealers. By 1914 Shchukin had purchased 50 works by Picasso from all his periods and, because he opened the doors of his grand Moscow home, the #Trubetzkoy Palace, to artists from around 1908, the young painters had the best school of the modern trends in their very own city. As the historian, Beverly Whitney Kean, wrote: "Malevich with his Slav face and dark gaze, his bulky frame balanced dangerously on one of Shchukin's spindly straight-backed chairs, was a fixture.... From time to time Tatlin joined him the Picasso Room [above]. In his rough clothes, wheaten hair carefully brushed, #Tatlin was obviously poor. The strange intent light eyes gave him an ascetic air, and like Malevich he was an incongruous figure in these sumptuous surroundings. He was less articulate than Malevich, but it was only a short time later that he set out for Paris where he met Picasso." #russianavantgarde #arthistorian #cubism #modernart #historyofmodernart #fondationlouisvuitton
